Message I have been considering a similar solution. I have owned several Zs over the years, both NA and Turbo, all the way back to a 78' 280Z. And the aftermarket system that I have had the best luck with has been Bosal. The fitment, back pressure and sound profiles are very similar to OEM. The problem is that they are constructed of aluminized steel. As a result they last, at most, five years. AutoZone sells them with a lifetime warranty, but that means every four to five years you need to repeat the repair.

From searching this site it appears that it is nearly impossible to get an OEM sound profile from the "performance" systems. I was hoping to go with one of the stainless systems as a more permanent solution to the problem. But in each post I have read the owner has complained about a drone in the 2,000 to 2,500 rpm range. Unfortunately this is a highly used rpm range given the shift points on an NA. This appears to be a common compliant whether the catback is an H-Pipe with glass packs (resonators?) or an X-Pipe. Although the X-pipe w/o resonators appears to be the worst.

It was this research that prompted me to post the question. As pointed out by zellamay, I realized from past posts that Genie by JWT was the quietest system produced. But I also realized it was no longer available. I have researched several other systems such as SZ, Labree, Borla (very good luck with them as well), Magnaflow, etc. But either they do not produce a system for the NA or other posters have complained about the drone between 2,000 - 2,500. At this point I may simply replace the system with replacement components directly from Nissan. I'm beginning to believe that, despite the price, it is the most permanent and predictable solution.
